DUBAI: Australia’s hard-hitting batter Travis Head and India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah were among the nominees for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Men’s Cricketer of the Year, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Monday.

Head and Bumrah are accompanied by England’s duo of Joe Root and Harry Brook, who enjoyed a remarkable year with the bat in the longest format of the game.

Australia’s big-match performer in 2023, Head, stretched his purple patch to the outgoing year.

The left-handed batter scored runs at a brisk rate in the shortest format and finished among the leading run-scorers at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Overall, he scored 539 runs in 15 innings at an exemplary strike rate of 178.47.

He was equally impressive in the longest format, scoring 608 runs in nine matches at an average of 40.53 and the highest score of 152.

Meanwhile, India’s ace pacer Bumrah was in a red-hot form across formats this year and led his side to important victories, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 glory.

The right-arm pacer took 15 wickets from eight outings – including a couple in an enthralling final against South Africa.

The right-arm quick also boasts a formidable record in Tests this year as he snapped 71 wickets in 13 matches.

Continuing his growing legacy in the longest format, England’s Root scored more than Test thousand runs in a year for the fifth consecutive time.

The right-handed veteran scored 556 runs from 17 Tests at an average of 55.57 and the highest score of 262, which came in the Multan Test against Pakistan.

England’s rising star Brook also enjoyed a dream year in the longest format, which saw him piling 1100 runs in 12 matches at an average of 55.00 and the highest score of 317, which also came against Pakistan in the Multan Test.
